Say more! What year, model??
Sight glass on my '74 Hornet is part of the line to the condensor. I don't think AMC put them near the valves.
74 Hornet Hatchback X twins (since 1977)
62 American Convertible (still worth the $50 I spent in 1973!) AMCRC #513, AMO #384
70 AMX 360 4-speed (since 1981)

The two valves that are part of the sight glass are not needed. They were part of assembly line installation. Everything was kept charged and sealed behind the valves.

Unless you plan on having the unit charged nd stored as separate components for sale or a later install, just gut the fitting of its valves and use it as a coupler. The system does not need it, and it sort of restricts flow of the refrigerant.

Never seen that either. You have 2 service ports at the compressor, expansion valve behind the dash attached to the evaporator and the sight glass is at the line attached to the dryer.

Just use two wrenches to remove the fitting from the sight glass end and the dryer.

This is the fitting... I gutted mine as shown in the 2nd picture.
