My 72 matador pas side window is really hard to up,and down
for the first couple of times, then it eases up a bit,
but only for that day. Next day or anytime later than 24 hours.
It get s real hard again.
I have removed the door panel and sprayed wd40 everywhere I can think of.
I even sprayed my window channels.
Not much help.
This was a 60,000 mile car driven mostly by only a driver, so I am sure this window
Did not get much wear,
Why can't I get the lube where it needs to be?

To begin with WD40 can be a marvelous thing but the one thing it is NOT is a lubricant. It will loosen things up but then it evaporates and leaves no lubricating residue. You should be using a white lithium grease on all the pivot points, gear teeth, and window channels.

So I will get some white spray and tear it down again.
How do I lube the internal gear right behind the window crank?
Ps any tips on adjusting the regulator?
I did a search and can't find anything usefull.
Took it apart and with all the adj bolts loose it is easier to roll.

Sounds like it is binding when tightened up. Might have to start with it loose, and then check with each adjustment to find out what alignment needed to be done.

When I took my 71 door apart they used some synthetic grease at one time. It was a mess but the crank action was pretty good. The only thing else may be the crank drive being stiff with dried goop, spraying with WD40 to clean the dried resedue behind and through window crank shaft while cranking up and down may loosen and dissovle what may have gummed up the works.

What do you mean by "messes with all the adjustments"? Spraying on a lubricant shouldn't change any adjustment. Did you spray it and then try to adjust it? Are you trying to do this work WITHOUT a TSM? If so you are just going to be running around in circles.

I need a tsm, my repair manual doesn't cover this regulator.

Lynn...

I'm not positive here, but it sounds like your door glass, might have come loose from the channel that holds it inside the door. This channel is actually what's glued to the glass itself (kind of a u shaped channel).

I say this might be the problem, because the pass door glass in my 70 AMX came out of the rear most channel. Before this happened, the window got harder and harder to roll up and down.

Because in my case it only came loose from the rear most channel ( there's a front and a rear channel) I believe it caused the two channels it bind against each other, making it difficult to roll the window up and down.

I would check to see if this is what is happening in your instance.

Good Luck...

Rich C.

I am going to get a tsm and take everything apart, and clean and relub.
Hopefully the tsm will have regulator and door glass adjustment .
Thanks.
Ps I have changed mabe 15-20 roll up windows in my past, had no trouble
with them, just put everything back. With the paint marks like it was.
This one is a pain , not having instructions!
