I was wondering if any new tanks fit my 70 Javelin. It now has 16 gallon tank and at 10 MPG , I can drive only a few hours before refueling. Somebody got one from Chiefs auto parts but it only was listed for 1971 and up. Is there that much of a difference in the years or did Javelins stay the same throughout the years? Will an Ambassador tank fit? Anybody refit any other models onto their cars? No fuel cells, please.

Big car tanks are side fill, not rear.

Here is a very expensive 19 gallon tank:
I believe if you call Spectra, they will make a 22 gallon tank, example only: Keep us informed on what you find out as most will be planning our tours via gas stations in the near future!

I'm with Sonic on this one. My well tuned and well running 390 AMX with 5 speed and 3.15 rear end turns 1950 RPM at 70 MPH. Speedo and all other gauges have been rebuilt and the installed speedo was GPS tested for accuracy. On a round trip from Cleveland to St. Louis and almost all freeway it was 19 MPG for the trip. With the 4 speed t-10 and 3.15 rear best average was 16 mpg.

I have the Spectra AMC1 tank on my '74 Javelin and used the pickup, straps, etc. for a Concord, but changed the potentiometer strip in the pickup to the early one to work with the stock gauge. Worked fine with later Javelin push-in filler neck. Vent line needed to be routed to opposite side, so modified the new tank before putting any gas in it. For a '70, you'd need to solder/braze in the filler neck or maybe change to the later push-in filler neck (not sure it works??). Good time to also modify the tank for an in-tank fuel pump if ever considering EFI. The stock tank didn't give enough range for me either.
Hope this helps, RD.

So how much does it hang down in the rear more than stock? Would you mind posting pics?
