Would 14x6 JJ rally wheels be correct for a 72 401 Javelin?

Just my thought but it is your car and what you run on it is okay. If you haven't bought anything yet, go with 15 inch as tires are easier to find at speed ratings. Look for pictures of your car with the different wheels and then make your choice. As far as proper concourse exhibition, I don't know.

Ah... There's a lot of different ways to define the word "correct". There's correct based on what your car was ordered with from the factory. Then there's period correct... Meaning what kind of rims/wheels were popular during that time period... OEM wheels that were not stock to that particular car.... and After Market wheels from the 60's, 70's and 80's would generally fit this period of time And finally there's what looks correct to the eye of most people who own Javelins. So when you say correct.. please explain what you mean better so we can give you a better answer to your question.

Both types of Rally wheels were available in 72, as shown by the brochure pic. I like both, so, you can do whatever you like.

As cricket stated... though I never seen a Javelin non AMX with them out side of my own, back in the 80s, as I replaced the steel wheels with rally wheels from a 74 AMX. Just from the early years of out in the wild daily drivers. Most likely a Javelin would have the Magnum 500 wheels, as shown.
It is possible someone could have had the dealer add the rally wheels during purchase. |

My 72 Javelin AMX came with 15" rally wheels. I'm not sure that you would have seen a 14" rally on a 401 car, but I have seen some odd stuff from dealers and such. Cheers, Billy

Those are the Ford looking Magnums on the Silver car? If its true that a 72 could come with Magnums, its new to me.

14x6 Magnum 500 style were optional on a '72 401 Javelin (and on Javelin AMX). 14x6 8 slot styled wheels were optional on V8 Javelins and standard on Javelin AMX). 15x7 8 slot styled wheels were also optional. So yes, correct. IF you don't currently have some you might want to go for a 15" wheel (as mentioned it's easier to find 15" tire choices). And since you can buy newly manufactured 15x7 magnum 500 wheels that would not be correct-but would look great-you can go that route. It is getting real hard to find 15x7 slot style AMC wheels. (Some very early '72 Javelins came with the optional Machine 15x7 wheels, which are just as hard to find and more expensive yet!) |
