My manifolds are coated, look nice, and apparently reduce heat from the engine compartment. I would like some feedback on whether coating the entire exhaust system is worth the cost, how long it lasts, if it protects from rust (did you get the inside coated?), etc.
Thanks! Brian

Instead of coating the entire exhaust system, consider installing stainless steel tubing. 304SS or a better grade of SS will last longer than the car and in the long run, probably end up costing about the same as coating steel pipes, especially if you can find a shop capable of coating the inside of everything, like mufflers.

I got this exhaust system for very cheap, wanted to utilize it, but that is a good point.
Thanks! Brian

For every gallon of gas burned there is about a gallon of water exiting in the exhaust. It can condense in the exhaust pipes and rust the pipes from the inside. Coating the entire system will keep more heat in and reduce condensation in the pipes and if the inside of the pipes is coated it can reduce rust. I doubt that it would be worth the cost. I would use the pipes you have and their useful life will depend on many factors. If they wear out, as White70 said, get stainless for the next set.

I coated the new exhaust system on my 61 Ford Starliner with Spearex header paint in 1968 and it is still in good shape.
I'd say it was well worth the $10 worth of paint! Ron.

Ceramic coating definately reduces heat under the hood.
My neighbor had a 1940 lasalle. The flat Head V8 was unlike the ford in that the exhaust exited in the center V behind the carb! The porcelain / ceramic had burned off making the car a vapor lock nightmare. He removed them and had them re-coated. Problem solved. |

I suspect a heavy Ceramic coating would be superior
to paint but paint could help at a much lower price. |
