Is WSC the only company making coil overs that you can use with stock control arms?  I know Freakride has some, but don't think they're compatible with stock suspension.

You might have trouble finding a coilover listed as a direct fit for AMC's but here is no reason that you can't fab up a custom adapter bracket to bolt on one. I would contact RideTech and see what the specs are on their coilovers. I used their Shockwaves on my Javelin with some 1/4" plate on the bottom to attach them to the stock upper control arm. They make a Shockwave with a much longer lower pivot mount that fit early Mustangs that might bolt to the upper arms without adaptors. Since they make a bolt in Shockwave for this application they might also have a coil over that would fit. AMC upper shock mounts are not designed to support the weight of your car. I modified mine and they now support the upper stem mount of my Shockwaves.

Richard -

I like the way you did your top mount so it would hold the weight of the car.

I am having custom control arms made that will be fully adjustable.  The prototype set is set up for the stock spring, but if I can find coil overs that will work for my car (right length and compatible with the upper shock mount), I can buy a set and send to the fabricator so he can come up with a mount.

I'll check with RideTech to see what I can find out.  Also e mailed QA1.

Thanks,
Scott

Freakride's coil overs are compatible with stock upper control arms, so they should be compatible with my custom UCA's.  $950 for the set, includes Viking double adjustable shocks (very nice stuff) and all hardware needed to mount.  The Vikings are a hybrid coil over -- the top of the coil spring fits into the factory coil spring pocket.

As you can see on my setup, I deleted the factory coil pivot which would make the mount the same as the new tubular control arms. If you did not use the factory bolt pattern for the pivot and just welded on a plate that bolts directly to the shock, you could delete one part. The lower surface of the tower is designed to support the weight so any plate mounted there would support the car but the shock would have to be a few inches shorter.

Javelin is still sitting in a storage unit in Georgia, but I'm back in the states after 5 years overseas (Korea and then Italy).

Plan is to put it together with factory bits and race it in 24 Hours of Lemons and Chumpcar.  With a healthy V-8, 4 speed, and a few tweaks to the suspension, I'm hoping to have a fairly quick car.

If anyone is in the San Antonio area and wants to be a member of the team, please pm me.

Also looking for front coil springs and rear leaf springs.  I sold what I had when I was planning on composite rear springs and coil overs up front.

Thanks

Scott

I was sifting through the road racing stuff and came across this thread. Have you made any progress? This is kinda crazy, but I wrote a quick article about your car 10 years ago!

Car is still in storage, patiently waiting in line.  It's in San Antonio now, but I'm in Washington DC area for my last tour of duty in the Army.  I'll retire summer 2023 and then back home.

We'll be waiting. I haven't even driven mine in 4 or 5 years. I guess I should sell it.
