So, I have been posting about my restoration project, a 1959 Rambler American, 2 door sedan. I've had this car for decades, working on it (off and on) over the years. I have rebuilt most of the mechanical parts, and now that I have retired, I've gotten it out of storage, and have started on the body. It has had a hard life, with a fair amount of rust.

I have the tub stripped down and the front inner fenders and rear fenders removed, and sent off to get cleaned.

So I removed the original headliner in my 59 American during the restoration. I discovered a bunch of calculations written on the back of it. Not sure what to make of it. It could be from someone trying to figure out how much material they need? What's your guess?

Hours worked x rate = paycheck , would be my guess.

He seemed to use the number 527 a lot. He multiplied it by 11, 33 and 34.

Good luck with the project.  There were not a lot of Ramblers in the Kentuckiana area when I grew up.  I was born in New Albany and lived there until I went to college in my late teens in the 1960s.  Are you truly restoring the Rambler or are you doing a restomod or some sort of modernization to it?

It's a complete original restoration. No modifications except for some reinforcement to the underside. I am adding some jack point to the tub so I can use a floor jack on it without bending the sheetmetal.

I have removed all of the fenders (inner and outer) and those have been sandblasted. I'm working on the underside right now. I have it turned over and and removing all of the undercoating that has been caked on in it to get to the rusted out parts. Once I get the undercoating off, then it will be sandblasted and new metal welded in.

Here is a series of photos showing the removal and cleaning of the Left Rear fender and wheel well. The wheel well was packed with dried mud and road grime towards the back near the tail light and fuel filler pipe. I plan to fab up some inner liners to keep this from happening in the future. The first pictures were taken when it was on the the ground. The last pictures are of it inverted on the lift.

Got most of the undercoating removed and cleaned. but need a lot more cleaning before it can be painted.
