And your title says '70 AMX', but your description says '79 AMX'.  Both cool cars, but different!  Glad you are working on it.

Mike
1970 AMX, one step forward, one step back. Both steps cost time and money.

Since he has owned it for 51 years, it was pretty easy to determine whether it was a 70 or 79 model.

Bad typo, and heck of a start!

It is a 1970 AMX purchased in Biloxi with 11,500 miles.  At present time it has 111,414 miles and it has been experiencing Louisiana climate since 1975.  For the last 26 years it has been parked outside exposed to the elements as life moved on. First attempt on upgrade was around 1976 consisting of increasing original 360ci motor toward 390ci, don't recall final displacement, and a cam replacement.  Heads were reworked along with a ceramic valve guide replacement.  Drove it for 1,800 miles and then real life happened.  Job, great wife, house and kids!

Thanks for pointing out the typo.

Project started with a full disassembly of the vehicle last fall.  All removable metal parts were disassembled, as interior was pulled out years ago.  Engine and transmission were removed along with the dash and every other component.  Vehicle was stripped and sent for the chemical treatment.
During this disassembly phase it was discovered that the battery which was relocated to the trunk area was ruptured and created total destruction across the trunk and some frame sections.

Pictures will explain the story better, once posted.

Before continuing I would like to take this opportunity to thanks Hal Lynch and Dennis Allen for their support and answering many of my questions.

This project will consist of the following components:
Control Freak Freak IFS
Heindts Superride IRS
New 401ci engine with Holley Sniper
Ricks Stainless Steel Fuel Tank
700R4 Transmission
Wilwood brakes with hydro boost
Vintage Air with Dakota Digital controller
Dakota Digital Instuments
Wheels and tires, 18"x8" front and 18"x10" rear

Good list for the start, and all the items but the last two are here!

I'm hopping to drive this vehicle before becoming "Brandon"

John, this all sounds so familiar.  Almost exactly what I planned and have almost completed.

- Control Freak Freak IFS - done.
- Heidts Superride IRS - thought about it but went with CF 4-link.
- New 401ci engine with Holley Sniper - 401 been at machine shop waiting for my go-ahead.  Sniper currently sits atop my 304.
- Ricks Stainless Steel Fuel Tank - who's this Rick guy?  I have a custom SS tank by a guy in Walker, LA.
- 700R4 Transmission - I'm running a TKX.
- Wilwood brakes with hydro boost - done, but no hydro boost.
- Vintage Air with Dakota Digital controller - no A/C yet but in the plans.
- Dakota Digital Instuments - done.
- Wheels and tires, 18"x8" front and 18"x10" rear - currently 16", may go to 17".

I'm in Carriere, MS, just north of Slidell.  Pass through BR occasionally, would love to see your car.

This is a stainless steel unit with Aeromotive 340 pump, sending unit and attachment straps.  Tank looks great and was delivered on time.

Can you provide info on the individual in Walker, LA?

I have another 1970 AMX which was purchased as a donor vehicle and in much better condition than the the one which is being restored.  No plans for the second build at present, but you never know.

I did come across an article where 70 Javelin was retrofitted with IFS, Mustang II, and Ford Coyote 5.0L  engine and manual transmission.  This ia one fabulous build and possibly something to consider.
