Scott,
I've used a simple trim removal tool from Harbor Freight, looks like a screwdriver with a big split tip and about a 45 degree bend at the business end. NAPA/AutoZone or other parts houses should have something similar. I always use a shop rag or thin cardboard against the glass, push the tool under the trim and pry it up. It helps to work as close as possible to the trim clips which are all on the outer perimeter of the trim (closest to the roof in your case). The trim clips have a rounded, friction type holding mechanism to retain the stainless trim, easy to see how it works once you have a piece of trim off. There may be gunk/adhesive also holding the trim down. Go slow, be careful and I cannot emphasize enough, use a buffer rag or cardboard between the tool and the windshield glass.
You could also take it to any glass shop and they should be able to remove it for you in about 5 minutes, damage free.

I think this is the kit TX390AMX was referring to.  I have this kit too, and think the tool I used is the same one he mentioned.

I made the mistake of getting those Harbor Freight nylon pry tools.
The nylon is inferior,  it breaks way too easy, also wears away easily

I've had another, USA made, a glass installer just gave it to me, used it probably 15 years or so, when I was working full time, but I misplaced it.
I'm retired now, don't use my glass tools nearly as much, i've broke 2 of those Harbor Freight tools and haven't even had them 1 year.

You could take the USA made nylon window stick, and bend it through 90 degrees, and it'd spring back.
The Harbor Freight tools will break at a fraction of that.

Made one out of a thin putty knife , just cut a > on the edge close to the end leaving a < slide it under and hook the clip , pry the clip away and should pop tight out .

I agree with rnscustom- the tool as he describes is the right one to use- usine mine I was able to get under to release the clip.  Once you get the hang of the motion to release it's surprisingly easy to do. I bought mine.  since I'm low on the ingenuity scale.
