I believe I have the 14x5.5" (or are they 14x6"?) wheels on my '74 Javelin AMX. Any idea on what the largest width tire is that I can fit on there without any issues? I talked to my dad, and he thinks 245 60-14's will fit on the rear, but I think that might be a little too wide and a little too tall. Any help? Thanks!

Not too tall, but wider than recommended for a 6 inch wide rim. They should fit, however.

My opinion,

A 245/60-14 is too wide for a 14x6

It's been done thousands of times,
you won't fly off the road and hit a school bus full of nuns if you do it,
but most 245/60-14's are wider than what I would run on a 6" wheel.

Math time,
245 is the tire section width in milimeters
^not the tread width, but the "section width"/widest part of tire IE: the buldge

245 x.03937 = 9.65" wide

The difference between the 9.65" tire and the 6" wheel is even more of an issue since it's a relatively short profIle 60 series tire
(tire height is 60% of the width = 5.79" sidewall)

Me, I would use a 225/60-14 on that wheel,
if I didn't think that tire was tall enough for the look I wanted,
I'd go with a 225/70-14, or even a 235/70-14.

Check the tire manufacturers recommendations of whatever tires you're considering and see what they suggest as well.
Good luck

Edit,
fat fingers math + clarify

Your car looks great by the way Smile

What size tires are on it now?

If it were me I'd try to get 15x7's for the back,
paint them to match the fronts,
 run a 255/60-15 on the 7's
& keep those 14" rear tires as spares

Thanks, guys! Would a 70 series tire be too tall? And would it affect my speedometer at all? Also, I’m planning on maybe getting 15x7 Superlites for the front and 15x8s for the rear at some point—just wanted a little wider tires for the time being. It only has a 304, so it’s not gonna boil the tires off or anything, I just wanted something that looks a little bit better. My dad has the car in Wisconsin, but I think it has 215‘s on right now, front and back.

I think it looks pretty spiffy the way it is.
Bigger tyres make the car accelerate slower and stop slower, due to the additional centrifugal mass.
And tyres that are too wide for the wheels give lousy handling.

When I got my 71 T-top there were mismatched wheels and tires all around and I had to get them uniform. I went with a set of 18" diameter wheels all around with 7" wide up front and 8" wide for the rear. I fit a pair of 225/40 and 275/35 to match them. The rear comes out to 26.1" tall so whatever clearance issues you think exist with your selection, I can at least confirm 26-27" tires are a non-issue. As for what can fit on your factory wheels I suggest 215s or maybe 225s.
