The spring perches are also different. It will fit but you will need to test fit wheels/tires.

Thanks again! My friend who is a chevy purist bought this car to build a chevy powered gasserbut in the meantime found a pro street 65 nove to do that to. His wife likes the car it as at the moment a ford 302 mocked up in it. I think i have convinced him to go to amc running gear and not a small block chevy. This car is in beautiful shape!

It is a good looking car! While of course everyone here would prefer to see an AMC engine in it, put in what you want to get it moving again. Better that than letting it sit! Note that others won't share that opinion... but that's mine! You shouldn't have a problem finding an AMC 360. All Jeep Grand Wagoneers (and many pre 87 big Wagoneers and pickups) will have one tucked under the hood. The trans has to be rebuilt to convert from 4x4 to 2WD, or use an adapter (Novack or Trans-Dapt) and a GM trans. AMC 2WD tranny will of course work, but are hard to find. The 904 out of a six cylinder car will bolt up (72+), but will need beefing up to stand up behind a 360. If it's just a cruiser that won't see any hard use and little horsing around just a good external cooler and a towing or RV shift kit will let the six trans survive behind a stock 360. Much more than stock or beating on it will require a built 904. Luckily there are plenty parts and people who know how to build them as drag racers prefer the 904 or 998 over a 727 due to lighter weight and less power to turn. AMC used 904s in 2WD six cylinder cars, 998 behind 304 V-8s, and the 727 behind the 360 and 401. Pre 72 AMCs use Borg-Warner autos, and the six cylinder models use a different bell pattern than the V-8s. All TF AMC engines use the same bolt pattern -- the six pattern was changed to the V-8 pattern when AMC switched to TF trannys in 72.
