Un-Stick rear brake drum '71 Javelin V8 (AM20 axle) ??

Really stuck.......3 days of PB Blaster and hammer..........afraid to pound it harder:
It's 10-inch, flanged (V8) drum...shoe adjustment is backed off, drum turns OK.

Only way I can see is to remove hub....drum will come with hub (still attached)
Hub off, should give better shot at backside of drum,  without hitting flange   (cracked = disaster)

But rather not pull hub.....seems like asking for trouble with tapered axle (??).... and need puller.

         Ideas ??

If it is down to the rivets,  backing off the adjuster a lot more will free it up. I've seen some serious grooves from rivets.

the drum is a very tight fit on the axle flange and you have to make sure you've scraped/filed/sanded the exposed part of the flange, so the drum will clear. Also spray the PB blaster around the lug nut holes so it wicks inside and keep taping it.

I have had to gently use the torch sometimes. It usually doesn't take much to free it

Nice 4lb machinists hammer, pound directly on the flat surface between the lug nuts while prying gently with a small pry bar. Rotate around with both the pry bar and hammer, it will eventually pop. A large 3 jaw puller with light pressure and a bit of heat around the center hole for really stubborn ones.

you'll eventually pay for it...
and not have it.

Success !.....rear drum is off....without pulling hub....ow, my back.

Credit 4 days of PB Blaster....and hammer around  the main drum, near face....not the flange's    back edge.
Debit PB Blaster for soaking the nearly new brake linings  **:

New question: any way to get PB Blaster out of nearly new lining ??
Heat, maybe ?..... but it is flammable
                Lacquer thinner ?
                Other ?

Knew from previous removal, it would be a problem, so had painted flange surface AND used anti-seize
It was not rusted, not any at all.....slides easily on hub

Think problem is either the shoulder that is around each stud, which fits too tightly into the drum's holes (not seen this shoulder on GM's):
or, the holes or studs are misaligned with each other.......Other side's drum is OK,  not tight.
Had it happen to you ??

**   soaked lining might be avoided by re-installing drum's hold-on screws a turn or two, to block these holes.

You mentioned that the studs are very tight in the drum holes, did you replace the studs when you rebuilt the brakes, are you sure you used the proper size studs, they should be 1/2-20 threads.

Studs (and hub) look original......car shows only 80,000 miles.......overall condition looks like it's 80K
Drum on other side came off fairly easy.

Just re-tried drum........it's really tight, and one stud looks like it might be slightly off.

I'll handle this by slightly enlarging hole(s) until drum slips on.

Don't try to reuse those linings, they're contaminated by the PB Blaster.
New shoes are cheap insurance. ditto with the hardware.

Brake drum puller will get em off. I rented one from the local rental store to get my 25 year plus rusted drums off.

Too late now, but if you caught the fluid within minutes of being on the shoes, brake cleaner will usually save them.
