Isn't that a great feeling to start assembling all the pretty parts after years of redoing them? Big smile

A little more done. I assembled the front linkages and gear box. Got the inner fender wells undercoated and the springs back in. The discs are on temporarily until I can get them either turned or replaced but for now I just need them for rolling the body out of the tent so I can cut-in the other parts. It is nice to see it on it's own wheels again.

The body is now out of the tent! I got the parts to paint in and sprayed on Tuesday.  Yesterday I mounted the doors and hood. I'll need to change one hinge as it will not set down properly and seems to be bent in a bit with some play at at least one pivot.  The fenders are waiting on undercoat before I try to mount them and check alignment. All in all, it is looking pretty good. fun getting to put it together and see the changes.

worked on getting the fenders and hood on and aligned. only partial success. It took a lot of work but the passenger side fender and door lined up pretty well. The drivers side has not cooperated. I can't get the door to shift forward enough to close the gap to the fender. The fender is as far back as it can go. I will need to remove the fender and door to elongate the holes for the hinges. The window frame is also a bit out of true so I will need to get that aligned as well. Then there are the dents and defects in the body that I can see now that I have it in the sunlight.  The hood was another problem. One hinge was too loose and would not close down all the way. I replaced that and the hood still has issues with a bit of warp and not seeming to align with both fenders. I have it pretty close now and will continue to work it if it still bugs me. For now I am letting it go until I have the drivers door aligned properly.  It looked so good before I tried to put it together, now, not so much.. Maybe if I only approached it from the passenger side.... LOL! Back to body work I go. If I don't do it now, I'll regret it later.

Finally got the door and fender aligned.  I had to remove the door and fender, pull out the door mount plates from the body and file the tab slots wider. The tabs that hold the plate in place would not let me slide the door forward to close the gap to the fender. Looks a lot better now.

the gap..

 Better now

I also found a few spots that were less than good, so fixed those. The quarter had a dip in it right next to the door that showed up with a bit of color on it, not terrible, but right where you would see it every time.

Now that I had that done, I sanded all around for paint. I'll be shooting it on Tuesday.

I spent part of this week cleaning and prepping the garage so I could have a controlled environment to spray in. Moved a lot of stuff into the tent I had the car in, cleaned and hung plastic around the perimeter to protect all the shelves of stuff I didn't want to move.  I'll move the body into the garage Sunday, fix a few spots that need attention and use the airbrush to spray the sand through areas and fixes, then mask for paint. The weather should be great for painting tuesday/wednesday.

The Body is now in paint!

After the green dried overnight, I sanded the sides and started laying out the stripes. Probably a better idea to buy the stripe kit but since when have I done things the easy way? LOL! It took me over six hours to get it all laid out. There are a lot of flaws in it but standing back it looks fine.  Just to make my life harder, I decided to cut out the Gremlin X lettering for it too, both sides and the back. Again not perfect but not so bad for free hand cutout of a crude tracing!  Next on the list is to sand and clear..

Got the headlight buckets and grill shot too!

I already am!  I have another one that has been in the que for a while.  I will be updating on it soon. Funds are scarce right now so doing what I can with what I have. I probably will not get much done with this car for a while, but should be able to do small things and get some of the interior and wiring sorted. The other Gremlin does have an engine, I6, and I have a rebuild kit for it so will work on that this year. I hope to get some body work done on it too, as that is mostly just labor! LOL!
