Well, I went from never having an AMC turbo 400 to having 3 of them here.  I consider them rebuilders - Can someone tell me what is a fair price to sell these for?  Are they more for the Jeep crowd? Thank you, Dean  cell 701-205-6906

The last couple of 400TH's I had I sold to Jeep guys for $100 Ea. They also just needed rebuilding, but all they wanted was the trans housing. When the CV joint on the front driveshaft fails in a 70's era Jeep with Q/trac and 400TH it sometimes takes off a corner of the trans case.

When I got mine back in 2003 ish, I paid $150 for it. By the way it was a fresh rebuild with a repair on said corner. Did a fine job welding it up and don't see any reason why a new case is needed if the corner is clean enough to repair.

IMO, a stock jeep th400 is not as strong as a stock 401 TC-727. There are quite a few hard items that need to be replaced for the Jeep Th400 to make it strong and durable. You can get a simple TF-727 rebuild kit and be happy with your TC trannie, for a jeep it's diff, if you don't know any better.

There's some work and parts required to turn them into a 2wd trans,
so if they're already converted they would be worth more to most people than in their original 4x4 form.

Years ago they were falling out of trees and in every junkyard,
I'm sure that lately they're tougher to find.

they are very easily converted to 2wd like said tail shaft and tail cone if you plan on rebuilding one for drag application but a very heavy tran more than the 727 and a hp pig to over the 727 but some one is willing to go the trouble in coverting them on here good luck on your endever

And the flexplates are weaker than the TF Ones. I have 2 of these TH400s....I dont use them because my cars are already set up for TFs.....but I like the TH400...very good transmission.

In over fifty years of driving I've only had two auto transmissions fail. One was a two speed Hondamatic. The other was  a TH400 in a Jeep Wagoneer. I made the mistake of backing it up a snowbank without putting it in low range and the reverse band let go. I needed to gain access to the underside so I could ram a willow stick into the gas tank that had sprung a leak.

Around here they are very plentiful and reasonable to obtain in the $75-$100 range.
