I'm fortunate to live within 100 miles of Desert Valley Auto Salvage, which is the classic car junkyard featured on the Desert Car Kings reality TV show.  They have two locations in Az.  I've only been to one of them, but it's huge, and there's nothing newer than about 1979.  Not much in the way of AMC, but they did have a nearly complete 68 Javelin and a Pacer for sale.  They were overpriced though, imho.

In any case, I went there today looking for some Tung-Sol headlights.  I know Mustangs and Mopars used the same headlights as the Javelin and AMX for a time.  The Mustangs were pretty well picked over, but I did find a 6012 Tung-Sol out of a '68 Mustang and some that were unmarked from 68 and '69 Dodge Darts and Valiants.

The one in the center is a 6012, from a '68 Mustang.  The others were unmarked.  The one on the right looks the same as the 6012, while the one on the left has smaller flutes in the lens. I have two of those as well.  Some of these came from a '69 Dodge Dart, but I'm not sure which.

Since the inked numbers are missing, is there a way to tell what they are from the lens?  There are also some very small numbers embossed into the glass by the connector.  Date codes perhaps?

Also, is there a way to tell a 6012 from a 6012S from just looking at the lens?

TIA!

The left one is a newer headlight, I think 6014 is the number.

agreed...the left one is a newer bulb....as far as ID on the 6012-S  I could not tell but looking at the bulbs I have other than the stamp on the back saying 6012-S.  Probably not critical at all to judging unless your a purest freak like me about stuff like that....Nice find BTW!!

I thought 6012-S was '69 only and 6014 for 1970, but I'm sure Chuck would know better than me on that.

I have a really low mileage 66 American that was parked in 1968.   I would swear that it did come with
Tung-sols but I will make it a point to check through the parts this week.  Joe

In the original posts Ian posted that the 69 had the 6012 and 70 had the 6014 bulbs which was a misprint that he corrected the next day.   Just to be clear....67-68 had the Tung Sol 6012 under part # 3202092, Listed as GE but were all Tung Sol as GE owned Tung Sol.  The 69 and 70 had the 6012-S under part# 4486754 (Thus the # change) in 71 they changed to the 6014-S ....The S was a designation for the guard Glow lamp which had a filament that would keep a dull light on even if the main lamp burned out. This was published as a safety item on the window sticker in 70 .  GE had bought Tung Sol if my information is correct so the book says GE but the cars had the Tung Sol bulbs...

Doesn't 67-68 use a different bulb than 69-70? I don't think the AMC parts book lists the TS bulb numbers but they do show the PN change and I thought 69 had a PN change. I also have a Tung Sol catalog and need to refresh my memory on this.
