I used 1 inch square tubing and 1 1/4 inch square tubing. The 1 inch is connected to the top spring insert with a 3/8 hardened bolt once inserted in the top spring hole a nut can be threaded on loosely to secure the upper part of the tool. The upper 1 inch square tubing also has a 5/8 full threaded rod inserted and welded with a couple plug welds on the sideUsing the square tubing keeps the assy from twisting out of possition like so many of the other types. I marked the inch scale just so its easier to keep the sides balances The 1 1/4 just slides over the 1 inch tubing and is attached to the lower part of the spring. To me it is a very simple design and very compact Hope you like.

Nicely done. We're getting quite a collection of home made trunnion spring tools around here.

I have a factory type spring compessor but since it is so large I can only grab 5 coils and trying to compress 5 coils is a pain and a lot of tention compaired with the eas of compressing 10 coils and being able to compress more area to a smaller size. basically very little compression and less chance of failure.
