also CJ, if your getting a converter made to your specs just have them make the snout the same size as a 727 snout and remove the thin spacer in the crank hub.

I believe APPs bolt on is only for 727 adaptions to the early crank.  I have a couple of them that I am not using if anyone needs one.

FYI Dan, APP's adapter will work for BOTH the 727 and TH400

the only difference is the converter snout on the 400 is a tad bit smaller requiring the thin spacer in the end of the crank.
here is the kit

and here is the crank adapter with the spacer for the 400 in it

Yep.  Now that you mention it, the spacer insert is required as I have removed them from a number of later model cranks.  The kit you are showing is the one I have also including the grade eight extender bolts.  They sell from APP for $189 plus around $20 - $30 shipping IIRC.

You guys are awesome! From what I see, the adapter is for the Converter Pilot diameter and that’s all. Thanks PHAT69AMX for the Crank Adapter drawing and yes I might be in the market for one of your adapter kits. But I want to talk with a local engine builder about machining the crank first, and see what he thinks about it.

      So many decisions  Big smile

Hold on boys I’m going to stand on it

The Adapter Kit pictured also works, has a bolt-in crank adapter, so also needs the block / trans spacer.
Can be used without engine dis-assembly, very handy.
No block / trans spacer is needed when the PAS sketch of machined crank flange is done.
But obviously engine must be dis-assembled.  Glad to help.

Yes...  you can swap the tailshaft out of a 2 wheel drive GM transmission into the AMC   TB 400 , but you will not have hole for the speedo gear, as  AMC  did not  machine it out.   My plan is to use an electronic one
