Hi Everyone, this is my first post here.

My customer brought to me a 69 javelin sst with a 290 V8 and a automatic transmission. Found out that the dipstick tube is not the right one for the transmission causing a false reading on the dipstick. Anyone have any info on the specs of the right tube or where to get a replacement dipstick and tube. Car has the rambler flash-O-matic transmission(aluminum body).

Thanks

The transmission tube on a 1968 AMX/Javelin M12 Automatic Borg Warner is 25" long. Screws into the side of the transmission pan. Should be the same for a 1969 AMX/Javelin.

Transmission depends on which version of the 290. If it's a 4 bbl then it used the M-11. If it's a 2 bbl then it uses the smaller M40. If you're not sure if the engine is original to the car then the easy way to tell is the M40 has a aluminum case and the M-11 & M-12 have a cast iron case. There shoild also be a ID tag on the trans. as well.
Long time AMC fan. Ambassador 343, AMX 390, Hornet 360, Spirit 304 and Javelin 390. All but javelin bought new.

No speedometer cable on '69 AMX automatic trans. What kind/type tranny in this model & how many teeth on speedometer cable gear required (I see 5-6 plastic gear offered by AMARK from 15 to 19 teeth). Thnx.

The number of teeth depends on tire diameter and rear axle ratio.....I know that doesn't help much from scratch, but if you know the rear axle ratio....I can tell you the gear variations for different tire sizes.
