Did the factory use sleeves in the "frame" rail? Does it not crush when tightened down and can it tear the holes?

I can only note about the Gremlin.  I haven't taken a AMX frame apart.

In the 72 Gremlin, V8 only, yes.  Before they put the rear floor in, welded, an "H" shaped sleeve for the links to bolt to the frame.  The frame, in this location is more of a "U" shape.  The floor pan being the top.  The sleeve was placed in the frame before the floor was welded on so someone would have to know that this car was going to be a V8 before the body was welded/finished.  My guess is they would drill the hole in the frame first, then that would help ID that they had to put in the sleeve.  But... maybe a few cars got the sleeve without the hole being drilled?  No idea for sure.

I had to fix one on my car.  The sleeve was so bad, I had to replace it.  This is how I saw how the floor and sleeve were done.
1972 Gremlin X CA-V8,4spd, Levi.
