Congratulations to Eddie Stakes and those of us where got our letters published in the July issue of Hot Rod magazine. It seems the majority of letters were from AMC'ers who were upset with the April Fools joke Hot Rod and Steve Stanford played on us. Some of the letters were very funny. Usually the rapier whit comes from Eddie Stakes, but in this case there were lots of humorous responses of anger and sarcasm. But Eddie and a couple of others (OK me too) wrote in with positive comments about AMC getting the press. After all "the only thing worse than being talked about, is not being talked about". Hot Rod was kind enough to publish a picture with my comments, I am grateful, thanks Hot Rod. Now, we'll see how many hits my website gets. And I hope this is the first topic on the subject, I looked around and didn't see any yet. I know we had about 4 different threads going on the April issue thing.

Yeah, I finally got my copy of the April edition Hotrod. It must have been on a very slow boat across the Pacific or it travelled around he world first to get here.

People do also get angry when they discover they were hoodwinked. They should be more upset with themselves, and consider the other person to be clever to be able to do such a thing.
but we humans aren't that way.
Eddie is funny. I generally like to read his "editorial" stuff.

Actually I was very depressed for the first 24 hours after I read all these great promises for the new AMC in the April Hot Rod, and then the little "April's Fools" at the end. The next day, after the depression faded, I tried to turn it around, so Hot Rod never knew that I was one of those who was really upset, at first... At least they published an additional picture of Steve Stanford's Rebel Machine to try and make up with us AMC'ers. I have been looking for Steve Stanford and someone at the Knott's Berry Farm Kit Car show told me his is in his 50's. Steve, where are you? It's funny to note also that over the years Hot Rod has given the least amount of coverage to AMC, Car Craft, Popular Hot Rodding and the others featured more AMC's than Hot Rod. The only time Hot Rod ever had an AMC was when it had a Chevy engine. But now that the Chevys, Mopars and Fords are getting so expensive only a 60 year old baby-boomer from the "lucky sperm club" can afford one. Finally AMC is coming around as the great bargain to buy for main stream collectors.
Tom

P.S. "Lucky Sperm Club" is what Donald Trump calls those born into money, some say "trust fund baby". Too bad I already spent mine on AMC's.

Here is a link to the original article from April's Hot Rod on their website.

Bad for me now getting parts and cars, good for my wife when I kick-off.
She'll be able to sell this "junk" and have some eating money.
Trump is also 'funny'. Not your typical "rich person" if there even IS such a thing.

This is what "ruined" me for life wanting an AMC AMX hotrod as a teenager in the late 70's
It was in the first HotRod magazine I purchased new sometime in the late 70's.
A friend had a '69 Nova SS 396 4 speed 4.10 car and wanted to race him in a 390 AMX.
Is it okay to post a scanned pic from a 30 year old HotRod magazine ???

A similar all black 70 AMX also ruined me for life. I have both articles in my collection. If I build 1 more AMC, it will be a 70 AMX. Not that repro parts are coming out, it is actually possible. I let my Donohue go because I couldn't find good parts to redo it properly. I enjoyed the Hot Rod article for what it was and had no thought that any of it was actually true. I did give me some more customizing ideas, but my Javelin is too far to redesign it now.
