I was under the impression that all '65 Ambassadors had disc brakes, but mine has drums. Does anyone know if there is a conversion out there? I'm debating on whether to do it or not because the car is all original.

Drum brakes were standard on all '65 AMCs except for the Marlin, which had standard front discs. Discs were optional on your Ambassador. If your drum brakes are in top notch shape, they should be adequate for some basic driving. If you want to upgrade to discs, you can use just about any newer AMC disc brake set up, as long as you change the spindles. Search in this area of the Forum for lots of threads on converting over.

79-83 AMC brakes would be the desired factory ones to use, but may be hard to find. Anything older and the rotors cost $100+ each. Your best bet is the Scarebird setup (www.scarebird.com). They have it listed for Javelin and Rebel, but the Rebel kit will easily fit your Ambassador. That kit has been used on everything from a 62 Classic to a 72 or so Javelin. If it had drum brakes originally the kit installs easily. If you were converting from an older disc to the Scarebird setup you would need to make some spacers to center the caliper, or leave the original caliper bracket in place.

I think the link on their site may be the wrong one  for my vehicle. The price they have certainly beats out almost everyone else relativly speaking. But I have to wonder if the replacement parts list has been verified to be legit? Sure it bolts up , but rotors off a Toyota Previa and calipers from a Chevy Celebrity?  My car is a land yacht. Can I be assured this will stop it? Has anyone else used this before?

Yes, they have been used and stop fine. The calipers are the same as used on the AMC Eagle and Jeep XJ Cherokee, and the rotors are equivalent size. For normal driving they will be fine  for the Ambo. If you're road racing it you might need bigger, but that's about the only time! The Previa rotors are much better than the optional solid rotors the 65 Ambo could be ordered with.
