Lucas is the best stuff on earth and the only reason my scared up MG crank redneck rebuild has 17K of sprited miles on it when it should have been junked. Like Franks said, sticky stuff great for cold start protection.
I mix 20% plus a full bottle of Lucas break in to 4 qts ( full capacity). I wondered how it would do w/ a wet clutch. It doesn't slip any?

I've used Lucas Oil Stabilizer in motors, diffs, manual and automatic transmissions for years. It will bring viscosity up just a little, maybe as much as STP and similar oil treatments ("motor honey"), but not very much. The real clincher is this stuff is sticky, so a little lube stays on parts instead of all running off. Up to 10% in an auto trans will firm shifts, but I've never run more than a quart in an auto (most hold over 10 quarts total, I think the M-35 I ran it in all the time held either 11 or 12, so just under 10). It will firm shifts just enough to notice, but not a lot. I run about 20-25% in my Jag IRS. I tried running it 100% once (says it can be in diffs), but the diff was well worn and 100% Lucas made it a bit noisy -- it's obviously not as thick as 95/140 gear oil (or was that 85/120 or something like that?). Adding 20-25% doesn't make any noticeable difference in noise. I use 1/2 a quart in my motorcycle every other oil change. Holds four quarts, engine and trans oil is shared. If I go more than every other change the trans gets a little noisier, just enough to notice. It's a GS1000G with roughly 90-100K on it now. Benn doing that for the last 40K at least.

I added the whole bottle. Short oil filter ( 86 and back by the books) holds 1/2 quart. Lucas says it can be in place of a quart or up to 20% of volume. Reading that some AMC'ers run their oil a quart over, I figured half a quart over or less was acceptable. I know there is no miracle bottle for your engine, but it took less than 12 miles of driving for this to start working ....added to 5 day old ( under 60, not 6, miles of driving) pennzoil 10w40 no less. farna posted that he has used in diff's too I think ..... my Dad used to use Marvel and Motor Honey. I think this one stays on the shelf in the garage

I finally got the midplate, but anxious while waiting I:
Changed to an AC filter and it made no difference,FWIW I also topped it off after that with the Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer, and true to it's claim, I have 5psi more oil pressure across the board. I can now recommend it as a stop-gap measure before taking off the oil pump cover or swapping it's gears.

i wouldnt worry about the low oil pressure at idel as long as it goes up to at least 35-60lbs as soon as you rev it up.did you sand the oil-pump plate smooth and check the clearance?the pump housing wears pretty fast unless you get the mid-plate.make sure you run a napa wix filter not a fram because the fram clog up pretty fast and you loose your oil-pressure.
I am no amc guru but i have heard that the cam bearrings were installed then line honed from the factory because of core-shift.i have built several motors and have usually had to have the cam bearrings clearanced for the proper fit.

Not to change the subject, but kind of along these lines of filters. I purchased a new inline clear plastic fuel filter a couple months ago, put on the grem, and within 2 days, the filter element released from inside, and was just floating round, took it back, and they replaced it. NAPA

I'm anxious about the midplate too, but it hasn't come yet. Post from WA is slower than I expected, I guess.
I am googling like mad for a test I found with a bunch of oil filters disassembled, but have these 2 sources for the moment: http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters/index.html http://filtrationcomparisons.weebly.com/flow-vs-filtration.html I threw on the STP filter that came in the A-Zone sale package, and want it off immediately. Looking into the base of filter next to a simple AC , I can see why the STP falls along side walmart parts in quality. I don't know if the bearings coming apart is a failure, per se. Plenty of motors with double and triple that mileage. Mine turned 150,300 before any of this started. I think maintenance by previous owner(s) could play a part. Researching all of this, I am disappointed in what has happened to Fram, but am astounded at how poorly Pennzoil rates these days. It's all that has gone into my wife's Blazer since we bought it in 06, and now I find it has the about the worst viscosity breakdown out there....

How many miles on your engine? I've rebuilt 11 or 12 AMC V-8s with over 80K miles on them, and over half have had the coating gone off the cam bearings. Seems to be a common failure on old, high mile motors.
