Nope, you should be fine. That old 195.6 is heavy! The 232 is only about 150 pounds less than the V-8, the 196 closer to 75 pounds under the V-8. So for a cruiser you will be okay with the springs. The car WILL handle better with a bit stiffer springs though. Personally, I'd install as is, change the springs later if you don't like the ride/handling.

If i were to put in the 360 v8, would i have to upgrade the front springs? I assume it will sit slightly lower at the front...

They have polyurethane bushings in them. They will transfer a bit more engine vibration to the chassis than stock mounts would, but should be fine with a smooth running engine.

Yes, the rear crossmember is the same. There should be two mounting positions under the body IIRC. Whichever fits!

For all you northerners XY spoiler, refers to the rear spoiler fitted to an Ozzie Ford Falcon. Google XY Falcon.

Cheers guys,

All this information is of a big help to me, So i gather i can use the exsisting crossmember and put in the Bulltear Mounts and that will mount my engine in.. i was having a look in my rambler book last night and it seems that the rear cross member looks the same between the 6 and the 8???

I have been told that the XY spoiler i had on the back of it when i purchased the car was genuine, i have also had quite a few people agree, so im trying to sell it at the moment to get some extra cash to head in the direction of an upgrade.... if anyone has an idea on how much i could sell it for that would be great.... cheers

Thumbs Up V

The crossmember from a Hornet will fit also -- I know they sent some of those down there, but don't think you got any Gremlins (not AMC Gremlin cars anyway!). That V-8 crossmember has to be hard to find!  You would need the engine side plates from a small car as well (American/Hornet/Gremlin/Concord -- the Javelin used the big car plates). The Bulltear mounts are probably your best option. Otherwise you have to get big car side plates and cut them down about an inch (between block and mount) then cut the "perches" off the six cylinder crossmember and make new ones. Unless you're in a hurry it shouldn't cost too much to have the Bulltear mounts shipped from the states.

Does anyone know where i would be able to obtain a V8 Cross member for my rambler?

If you can't find one, Bulltear has an option:

Everything I've gotten from them has been quality and worked as advertised.

G'day Mick, I have my brother in-law Gary arrived tonight from Brisbane, another AMC nut. Another mate Allan will be here on Friday again from QLD to spend time with us just sorting out Rambler parts during the easter long weekend. My 73 Matador Wagon has arrived as well as my 63 Classic from my brothers workshop. Wednesday I be back in Sydney to pickup the 74 Matador parts car very early and take it back to Lithgow to work on it. By Wednesday night I will have a report on how good or bad the 360 and auto is. Allan has done a AMC V8 American conversion once before so I will ask him on what he did and how to go about it.
