The plate itself doesn't do anything for flow because it's just the roof of the intake, the bulk is built into the block. It won't matter which intake plate you use. The Weber may bolt to the Carter WCD intake plate, but you'd still need a spacer. You can actually make a flat aluminum plate (should be at least 1/4" thick, 3/8" would be better) to fit on the top of the intake and drill it for whatever carb you want. I've done that -- still have one drilled for a pair of 1V Carter YFs. There will still be a problem with clearance between the carb and valve cover. At least with the 58-63 Americans there is plenty room vertically to raise the carb. On a 64-65 American there may not be.

From what I have read in Tom's emails and postings the 2bbl plate really has nothing much to offer in the way of flow improvement. Something about the way it sits the carb and the valve cover issue to boot.
I'm sure if someone were to email Tom directly and ask him he will come on and chime in. I'm pretty sure he is busy with job, life, etc, right now.

Tom covers the linkage issue pretty well ...... fabbed but simple it seems ....

And he had to move the linkage up the firewall ...

Had not thought of clearing the valve cover; the Weber is pretty small but I suppose the 2 bbl
could line up differently

Is any additional flow from the 2 bbl worth the extra effort of a bigger or offset spacer ?
Would an offset spacer decrease any gains from the 2 bbl intake?

You'll need to fabricate linkage to make the weber work on either intake. You will also need to raise the carb up with a spacer(s) if using the 2bbl manifold. Because of the proximity to the valve cover the carb would bump into the valve cover - which is why the jeep adapter makes the 1bbl intake work.

I haven't personally tried putting any other carb on my 2bbl intake - but just looking at it i definitely see clearance issues at the least.

Now that I finally have the T96 rebuilt I'm going to investigate different fuel delivery methods. My machinist friend may help me design an intake for fuel injection. Fuel injected rambler managed by megasquirt sounds like fun. . .

I forgot : I have never seen a Weber firsthand ... so I am fearing / assuming tha it will not just bolt up ....
But maybe I am dead wrong ....

I know the redline kit has an adapter to the one barrel ...
so I am sure they are out there separately ...

I don't think there will be a premade adapter to put the Weber carb on a factory 2 bbl intake though ...

I read Tom's stuff a lot ... happy to hear from someone who has seen the car ...

If I don't think the 1 barrel intake would pose a problem ( and Tom sure as he** knows more than me) than I may have a 2 bbl intake I can offer up for sale to someone else here
doing more of a restoration, or staying with the WCD

There is a 2bbl to one bbl Jeep adapter.  I bought one off the net, forget where, a few weeks ago after reading Tom's website again and considering this little Carter/Holley 5200 for my car.  The carb came from a Ford Cortina, but has the same 2-bbl base as the Carter bbd etc.   I think Tom is very pleased with the carb and how he has it tuned.   I saw it at the AMCRC convention in June/July in Sacramento and it does rev nice.   Joe

Common sense would make me think that using the factory 2 bbl intake
would have the potential to flow better than the adapter to a one bbl from the Weber kit;

but do you think there would sufficient gains, on this little motor, to warrant the cost or trouble of fabbing an adapter to put the Weber on the factory 2 bbl?

 I can't imagine it's a stock item anywhere .....

I have pics of the wagon up in members projects:
http://theamcforum.com/forum/1958-cross-country_topic23127.html

Asked a ton of questions here, and obviously still am ....
Juggling 3 projects, not counting my 86 Grand Wagoneer , daily driver,
so progress is slow going.

Car was a 1 bbl ... picked up intake and WCD from someone here a year ago .....

I will be glad to get my '62 195.6 running with its factory 2bbl. Have you posted pics of your '58 wagon?
