i guess this is the right place for this question. some of you know of my 68 american. but for those that dont i will recap. its got a 199 i6 with b/w standard tranny. 3.40 rear gears. the rear rims are 15x8 and the rear tires are 28" dia. i feel  this is way to tall of a tire for this engine off the line and would like some opinions on what diameter tire might be best. last dyno run showed 132 rwhp and 186 torque. i will be puting a holley 390 on it soon and a wide band a/f meter. and later an intercooler.thanks for any input.

A P265/50/15 is a good short tire for a 15x8 rim if your looking for regular p-metric street tires.

295/50R15 or 245/60R15 both would give you better 0-75 yet run 75mph with out over reving your engine . . .

Use a gear calculator and at the highest speed you'll drive it for any distance should be between 2,800-3,200rpm rpm is what i was told with these older engines . . .

well i called the tire store today and they suggested either a 235/60r15  or a 245/60r15 . both are as close to the original dia.right now with the 275/60r15 at about 60 mph and i am guessing at the mph because of the huge tires the rpm is about 2200.thanks for all the help . the best i can tell the original tire dia. would have been about 26". once i get the car back on the road in a couple of weeks i will do a video for you guys of it driving.
