Lunati Voodoo 10100702 has a Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .507/.527. I am using early rocker stud heads. Could the stock rockers tolerate this amount of lift? I recall .510 being the limit. I just don't remember if that limit was for the bridged rockers only.

My 71 360 with 993 heads has been running a Crane H-272-2 272/284 adv, 216/228 @ 050, 484/512 lift 112 LSA for years with stock rocker gear apparently, but has wiped out an exhaust lobe at some stage.

The biggest thing you need to look at is clearance between the top of the valve guide and the valve retainer. I've seen engines with just over .500 lift crush the umbrella style valve seals. If you've had the guides machined for a positive type valve seal, then you should be good to go.

According to Erson the maximum lift for the stock rockers is 0.510". Here is their tech sheet.

This is exactly why I recommend remachining for large cams. I refer to that clearance between valve guide and valve retainer as maximum safe distance. There are other things that will effect performance like rocker type, weight, spring and stud size but we mostly don't need to worry about that on these engines. Just pay attention to the seal you're using and the retainers. You should be able to effectively clear .500" travel with umbrella seals. Otherwise, you have issues with seal quality or a number of other things to check out. |

I've been waiting for someone to do this! One of my favorite lines out of the movie. |
