So what's the deal with tachometer needles? The tach for my '69 AMX is missing the needle. It does not appear that there are any replacement needles available aftermarket and most of the instrument clusters for sale are also missing the needles. Just how fragile are these things. What's the fix?

They are fragile and the tachs themselves are hard to find internal parts for. I sent mine off to autoinstruments and they installed a new tach in the original gauge. It requires one extra wire but is smooth and accurate now.

ThanksTony,

Are you going to the swap meet at the Tradex this weekend? It starts today at 2:00. I'm going this afternoon. PM your cell number if you are going, maybe we can get together.

Wayne, not able to make it today to many chores to do. Hopefully you find some goodies!

No AMC stuff. Don't think I've seen so many SBC Edelbrock manifolds in one place ever (except the factory, I suppose). Managed to score a free rod for my Hurst shifter. Not likely vintage AMC spec, but it fits.

It's just as bad for the later tachs as used in Spirit and Eagle - I've even got a NOS tach that was broken like all the used ones broke. Finally found a good one, hope to install it this coming week. (CAREFULLY!!!_

Try Classic Instruments. I've worked with them in designing custom gauges in the past. They have a pretty good selection of needles. Might even be able to custom make one.
