I have a Taramac 176 transmission that is installed behind a mild AMC 360. The transmission will shift fine with the engine off, but once the engine has been running the transmission will not let me shift into first or second and barely lets me shift into third and fourth. Any thoughts to what this could be?

Thanks for the help,

Well I turned the jeep into a transmission shop here in savannah ga to have them take a look at the jeep. But as to answer how much free play the pedal has. The pedal has some play but it's average. The sad part is I just had this transmission rebuilt a year ago with all new shift forks, bearing, etc. I deployed with the military for 6months and them finished rewiring the jeep so the T176 as of today has a total of 68.3 miles on the engine and trans. When I here back from the shop I'll let you guys know. I would live a NV3550 but not sure about how I would fit the damn thing under the CJ -5

Thanks guys,

I wish, but they gave me a 6 month warranty on the transmission. Plus they are an hour and a half away and booked for the next five weeks with jeeps. They do damn good work on CJs and FSJ, but lack enough people in the shop. I hope it's just a fork or something. Damn I just remembered I put royal purple in the trans as well. There goes $100
