Dennis...all, this is a Hurst Competition Plus AFTERMARKET shifter, not a factory Hurst Comp Plus.  The really don't fit well, the offset is not helpful.   The factory Hurst Comp Plus is more up right and slips into the mechanism, not bolt fast.   The mechanism is the same from mid 1969 introduction to 1974....all models with 4 speed, the change between different years and models is all in the chrome handle.  69/70 AMX, Javelin and Rebel Machine used a round handle with fine threads.  SC/360 uses a round handle but with course threads....1971 -1974 uses a rectangular handle....Hope this helps.

One other way to tell a factory installed Hurst is that it will have provisions for the reverse switch.

Thanks for the responses. Looks like I'm in the market for a new shifter. Anyone have any suggestions?

This is an original shifter, I believe it is a 69. 70 and newer are very similar. The 1-2 and 3-4 shift rods are solid and no adjustment, The levers on the side cover are two piece and allow for adjustment. The shift lever mount goes straight up, this one has been damaged and the rubber cushion is missing. You need this type of shifter to use a console on the 71 to 74 cars. The offset type are aftermarket and are listed for non console applications.

This transmission came out of a 73 Javelin that someone else had converted from an automatic. It does  not have a console and there is a good sized hole where it came from. It did work well though so it's going into the 71 if I can find a decent shifter mechanism.

71-sst,
That shifter looks modified from a Chrysler/Dodge shifter from around 1967/69. The vertical arm that holds the shift handle (stick) appears to be welded to the shifter mechanism. I'm not much help but I think you are in the market for a new shift mechanism.

Boy, I'm not saying it isn't but Mopar shifters typically make the offset for a console in the handle, not in the shifter.  Like so fashion:

That is really good information as usual Ross! I'm going to file this away.

Our 66 Rogue race car aftermarket Hurst shifter had a chrome lever with a big offset to the right.

I found this brand new Hurst shifter along with 3 other used Hurst shifters in a box in my moms garage, but I don't remember where they all came from. The box they were in had "AMX/Javelin" written on it. Two of the other shifters look exactly like the OE Hurst out of my 70 AMX. They have non adjustable shift rods, and the chrome lever slips into the mechanism. They should be in the for sale section in a couple of weeks.

I just need to find one of the old Hurst "Super Shifters" for my SS/AMX project. Any leads would be appreciated!!

Here is a pic of a 70 setup, used to have a 71 401 4 speed car and it had the exact setup, if this helps at all.
