The seller said this t_10 is a super t10. The id chart i looked at shows the 414 looking pretty identical to this but its not a super t10. If it is a super t10 which one is it

The front is definitely T10 but the tail throws me.
I believe that GM performance in the early 80's had a "torque arm" that attached to the tail of the T10 that required a different tail housing. Arm instead of torque tubes like early AMC's, function was the same.
I believe that's what your looking at. Could be wrong but the tail has no provision to mount a shifter and no "gusset" like a regular T10 tail. |

Lyle, Not sure what you are looking at on the tail shaft housing????BUT it clearly has a Shifter Mounting Pad, that is the 3 bolts in a triangle pattern, just forward of the speedometer gear hole. All Hurst shifters use a adapter plate from that pattern to the main body of the shifter on T-10. The Inland Shifter bolted directly to the tail shaft housing. I have owned a ton of T-10's actually a few years back I had accumulated over 50, so I sold 80% off, need for all those. I have NEVER came across a Super T-10 in AMC's I know they made some but the main difference I am told is the High Nickel Content Gears, and the tag on the outside (if still there), other wise they are identical on the outside. If someone has a real deal Super T-10, please chime in.......

Not to muddy the waters but I THOUGHT that there were two versions of the Super T-10. The first came out in '65 while the "second design" Super T10 was GM only about '74. Again, I THOUGHT that the transition from the aluminum case to the cast iron case was the primary difference in the '65 design. |

Sorry, black through me off, but yes I see now the shifter mount.
You need to get the number of the tail housing to tell the application of it. T10's went all the way back to the early 60's and had 3, 4, and 5 bossed holes for shifters. That's the first one I've seen with no "gusset" or reinforcement on the bottom of the tail housing. One parts book has just on AMC tail housing 68-74 and the another has 2 different numbers for 67-68? No images. Look for a date as I'm thinking if it has the AMC front mount it's likely a 68 for use behind an AMX/Javelin. No proof mind you, just guessing.

Fairly certain it's a 66 Marlin T10:

Lyle, Impossible to be 66 Marlin, they were closed driveshaft cars and tailshaft and tailshaft case is nothing like this. Can not be from 66 anything but an American with that tailshaft housing date.....definately NOT a Super T-10. The T-Head Inland Shifter and case numbers would be 66/67 Open driveshaft cars, you could get 4 speed in Rebel and Ambassador in 67 also...but in 67 they were open driveshaft.

Yes the Marlin went open drive shaft 67, not 66.
Just read and punched in the ad with year of that tail shaft. Jumped too quick when found, without taking some time to do more investigation. I don't have a parts book for 66 or 67 so cannot tell if this was also used in 68 on the AMX/Javelin/Rebel... There are several articles, mostly GM, that describe being able to convert what they refer to as a "intermediate" T10 into a Super T10. This is mid 60's so maybe someone did the same conversion here?
