Does anyone know the diameter and the thread count on the strut rods? I would like to chase them before I take it apart.

Not off the top of my head, but I can in the morning look it up.  But if you take the nut to a local hardware store in their fasteners section that generally can be compared and figured out.

A vernier caliper and a set of thread gauges/combs are very handy to have and will last your lifetime if cared for properly. I would imagine it would be unf? The diameter should be easy to measure.

The thread is 11/16" National Fine, you will NOT find at local autoparts of hardware store!!  I usually glass bead the threads and use a thread file to clean up.  I had a die made 20 years ago and cost me $100 plus dollars at US Manufacture.

In the for what it is worth department, I too have sand blasted the strut rod including the threads , gone after the threads with a rotary wire brush and then taken my impact gun and a long socket and oiled the threads profusely and run the nut up and down them a few times.

You can get an 11/16" die at McMaster-Carr. They list 5 or 6 thread pitches, all run about $75. I think I'd go the wire wheel or glass bead route.

I agree with Ross. I couldn't find anything close at the hardware stores. I was able to order a correct size tap & die from an industrial fastener supplier that I have used to clean up the threads on the rods & nuts. Works like a champ.

Wrong thread pitch, I just checked a strut and my die...it is 11/16-18.
