so is the crank off set on the grind or just turned down to a small block chevy size to run the longer rod i have a 401 crank that spun a bearing needs welded to make stock was thinking of the having it turned into a stroker crank

It is both actually. Offset grind will make the journals smaller. The cost effective and easiest is chevy journal size. Using LS rods and custom pistons.

The short answer is yes offset grind to increase stroke, longer rods alone will not change stroke.

Depending on the change in center location of the newly machined offset journal, one "side" of the journal may get very little to no grinding. in the case of adding stroke it will be the "side" of the journal that is opposite the counterweights on the crank. With any luck there won't be too much damage done to that "side" of the journal.

If you are anywhere close to Ocheydan, Iowa, check out Z Machine.

Excellent work done by these guys.

Welding one rod journal may be more cost effective versus machining all of them and purchasing new rods and pistons . Of course provided you aren't going for all out horsepower no money limit.

Wouldn't happen to be #6? I just got an engine again that will need the crank turned for #6.
Have never been a fan of the old "cross drilling" a crank but starting to think cross drilling #6 may be a good idea.
