Starter for 258 Spirit

   Hello everyone... as the subject states I am looking for an engine starter for my 1979 Spirit 258. I have been doing research about all my possible options but the information online about all the possible fitments and applications is very vague and I can not make up my mind confidently about buying one. 
Some of the options I've  checked have been:

I've already learned the same engine was used on some early jeeps but I want the precise data to be confident of buying the correct one.

	Define "early Jeeps" - because that means different things to different people. To me, early is pre-AMC, 1970 or before, or even 71 or before. AMC stuck the 258 in Jeeps - so if it's a Jeep with a 258, it's an AMC Jeep and it would use the same starter because it IS the same engine - exactly, other than some of the emissions details, etc. I generally do not like remanufactured starters, but perhaps in your case, you may not have a lot of choices depending on where you are, etc. I only buy new starters, never remanufactured. And I never use a remanufactured starter drive, which reman starters have. Bosch starters are generally good, but there's also nothing wrong with the original Motorcraft type starters used on AMC 6 cyl engines. Good starters if they are redone properly. May I ask why you are looking at Summit instead of a starter listed for your vehicle - for a 258? You can get better prices elsewhere, at least in the states. Look up a starter for your car, don't try to get one "that will fit" but isn't listed specifically for that car or engine. If a starter is specified as being for an AMC 258 - not that it "will work on it", but it is listed FOR a 258, then you are fine. Again, is there a reason you are looking at Summit and not looking up a starter FOR THAT car?

	ricardo, not sure if they ship to Ecuador, but RockAuto.com has rebuilt and new starters for that engine. here that is a common part, it should not be hard to find, at least here. but the AMC 258ci engine is very common, even outside the US. here is the RockAuto page for your engine: https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/american+motors,1979,amx,4.2l+258cid+l6,1002788,electrical,starter+motor,4152

	Thanks Bill, totally makes sense to me what you are saying, I will stick to search starters strictly stated for my car... and I’m glad you asked why, I live in Ecuador and due to importation factors I preffer buying from acknowledged and fast online retailers, I’ve had good past experiences buying from Summit and that’s the only reason I was mainly looking there. If you have any other website suggestions of where to look I will be pleased to listen.

	Thank you Tom! as a matter of fact it is not necessary that they ship to Ecuador as it will be shipped to a location inside the US and then brought to Ecuador via an importer... so as long as they do that and be reliable(can’t afford to do returns or other problems) it will be fine I will take a look at rockauto, any other suggestions you may give me?

	the desire for reliable suppliers is real here too! rockauto.com is great. but the AMC-specific sellers are all reliable. they are smaller so not as fast to respond etc. and check on shipping, but if you have someone here in the US to ship for you, that helps. i use ramblerparts.com (doug galvin), blaserauto.com has a lot of very hard to find stuff but charges top price. peter stathes (amcrambler.com) has a limited selection but sells good stuff and does great work repairing pumps and wiper motors. others can add i'm sure.
