'70 Jav has these window "guides" (for lack of a better word) that the
window rests on as it is rolled up towards the weather stripping.  Problem is
that they mar the glass and squeak.  The noise drives me a little nuts
and the problem occurs with both door glass.

Here's a pic of the "guide" below.  Replace guides or some other solution?

I have removed them in the past with no ill effects.  An alternative would be to apply plasti dip to re coat them.

Plasti-dip works well.  For restoration work, I removed the roof rail retainer from the car and then removed the clips from the retainer.  CR Lawrence sells the rivet removal/install tool and 1/8" tubular rivets  can be sourced from a fastener house.

You can also bend them back a bit so they don't touch the glass.
Long time AMC fan. Ambassador 343, AMX 390, Hornet 360, Spirit 304 and Javelin 390. All but javelin bought new.

I have put a pc of electrical tape on them to stop squeaks
