Does anyone know where to find a spring compressor to remove the springs from the front end of a 70 AMX. Have tried several and have not found one the will fit the spring.. Thanks in advance

I made mine from a three foot length of All thread. I cut the bottom off a '70 front shock absorber and welded it to the threaded rod. The length is such that the All thread sticks above the shock absorber top cap. I put two flat washers on top and a nut. Pull your shock and bolt the All thread to the lower control arm. tighten the nut; pop the ball joint and safely lower everything to the floor.

I've used one like this for years, worn out one of them and made a second.

I have used this tool since the late 70's. Because the spring on the AMC is a wider diameter than Ford ( the plates with the tool are for a ford/mercury spring), I had to make some 1/4 thick plates. The plate is placed into the bottom of the spring in the coils vs. the kent moore tool that attaches to spring seat saddle. This is an excellent tool with a bearing for easy removal of the spring.

Hello Guys:

Question the all thread tool goes to top A arm cradle instead of bottom arm ?  Does the shock go to the same location ? Not sure how the tool would remove or install the coil spring, is  another tool used with another tool to compress the coil ?

Just can not figure out how coil spring will fall out or installed without compressing.  Thanks for setting me straight.

I just changed the front springs in our Gremlin, with the Garryjav tool. Unbolted the shock at the bottom and the upper bracket from the inner fender, and removed the shock. The tool has a plate that lays on the top where the shock mount was and the bottom mounts where the lower shock mounted. Worked better then expected.

+1 on the Garryjav tool.  However, Garry never answered my PM, so I was unable to buy one from him. I did buy a used one from a forum member and it works fine.  I believe that the Kent Moore factory tool might make it a little easier to rotate the spring out of the wheel well, but either one will get the job done.
