Ok good to know, Ross. Thanks! Turns out I have a spare York cylinder head here. Must be my lucky day! It's used but the valves look good, so I'll give it a try. I'm curious as to what caused the valve to bend in the first place? A York troubleshooting guide I saw said too much oil hitting the valves as drops instead of a fine mist. Not sure what that means????? I know it wasn't overfilled with oil. Over or undercharged with refrigerant seems like more of a possibility as that was done at a local shop. Well, Ross was right that the front shaft seal was blown too. That's in addition to the bent valve. I put some UV refrigerant in and went hunting with my black light, and it's pretty obvious that's where it's coming from.
I've already replaced the valve plate and head gasket (I had a spare on hand) and the gaskets & seals are still available through Auto Zone (Santech MT2080 for the gaskets and MT2048 for the shaft seal) at $26 for both kits. The gasket kit comes with the Rotolock teflon seals too. Auto Zone loans out the manifold gauges free of charge ($130 deposit) and I already have a vacuum pump, so I'll be ready to get the A/C going again once the shaft seal arrives. Good luck with the repair, Cam! And then many miles and many years of trouble-free A/C!
