In retrospect most of the smog equip actually helped these cars run better.Cold weather starting and mpg is often better with all of it in good working order.

My 82 eagle certainly runs cooler and better with the egr,and the smog pump keeps the cat working.Sadly most backyard mechanics rip and plug everything in sight.A basic understanding of these various systems and how they affect your engine is all you need. Its not cheaper to just rip out stuff,as you will pay for it in the long run. Each engine is different and all the hipo hop up goodies aren't always what's best for a driver. So before you read how bad all this stuff makes a car run,try atleast fixing the items first.

Nobody will believe you, or they will just say you have no clue what you're talking about.
There is a new generation of classic car owners on the rise who do things differently. |

If you want to make changes some gain can be made with a dizzy recurve, but once you change one part, the stock settings go out the window,so its only worth it if you have the proper tools, and a lot of time for trial and error. There's no one size fits all, like those junk one wire alternators, or race only dizzys with no vacc advance.Show and race cars are seldom started in sub 20 degree weather and driven to work, but everyone thinks because its a race part it works better, its your money....

Leaving my engines stock has certainly worked well for me. Emissions-era engines have always treated me well.
