Hi, looking for feedback on a good fitting no fuss single out header for my 82 Spirit 258. I see lots of Hedman but the app chart lists them for Jeep CJ. Thanks for any input! Pics would be appreciated....thinking of a 2.5 inch single in, 2.25 inch dual out exhaust.

Not sure if they make any. What alot of people do is...get a 91-up head and factory header and put that on.

Clifford only makes a 3-1 + 3-1 shorty style header. Dual outlet, but the outlets are high enough that it's easy to make a 2-1 collector at the end. They make it that way so it will fit the widest variety of applications. Price is $359 (http://www.cliffordperformance.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CP&Product_Code=57-2300&Category_Code=J258).
If there is a pick-n-pull yard nearby get a 4.0L head, valve cover, and factory header. You can get everything for about the same price as the Clifford header and solve the leaky plastic valve cover problem AND get a little bit of a performance upgrade with the better flowing head. The factory headers can crack, but are easy to weld up. Use a hanger near the firewall to reduce the chance of cracking again. |

I thought about the head swap but trying to keep it low budget while I put away for a 360. Would the factory carb mani fit the 4.0 head and factory header?

I also saw Cliffords dual outlet header but read that the shorty design kills torque. If I stuck with the 258 head, I wanna keep the torque. Trying to figure out the best way to warm the 6 up a bit until I v8 it. Also planning the 2100 carb swap and ignition upgrade.

The 4.0L head is cheap around here. You need to grind the tabs on the intake slightly where the alignment dowels fit and line the ports up but it works well. On the Renix exhaust we had to dent the pipes where the intake was hitting but HO clears fine.

Well thanks everyone for your input so far. I guess I'll keep my eyes open for an HO head and header. If its budget conscious enough I'll do it.
