Another difference is an early non lock up input shaft, it only has two sealing rings on it and has the cone shaped machined taper near the thrust washer surface.

This is a later input shaft, it has three sealing rings. It come around the time of lock up transmissions and can be found in both lock up and non lock up transmission types. This must be used with the correct matched pump.

That late rear drum both lock up and non lock up uses a funny looking three tabbed thrust washer. Different than an early drum.

Looks like a very fresh break.

One would have thought finding the burnt front drum clutches we had found the no reverse problem. But it looks like this is more of a problem, I have never seen a sevo break like this before, several other ways but not like this. Look over your reverse servo carefully for cracks.

This is what I am using to rebuild this 727. Lot s of different kits are available for 727s, this kit is pretty basic. It is fairly basic it has 8 clutches and a gasket set, the band was added and I am using a new pump bushing and filter. Several of the steel plates were damaged but I have a stack of used ones I will pick from to replace them. Even though the reverse servo was broken the band looked to be in perfect shape and I will reuse it. I have shown the intermediate band but not sure if I will use it, the original one looks in good shape and this is as inexpensive as possible rebuild.

I almost always use this shift kit when building a 727. It mostly uses different springs for the pressure control valve and a different manual valve that helps with converter drain back issues.

is it a lockup? I usually get the lockup spring that boosts locking to 50 mph

No its not a lockup I have seen lots of problems with the converter coming apart in the lockup transmissions. If at  all possible I convert them to a non lock up and have less durability problems with them. But the re-calibration spring you talk of is a good idea if you must leave it a lockup.

This is all of the new componets of the rear drum. The two lip seals to the right go on the apply piston, the most wavy snap ring holds the drum together and a flat snap ring holds all of the clutches in the drum.

This is the assembled rear drum, the snap ring is available in different thicknesses to help set clutch clearances. Some 46RE transmissions use a thicker steel plate if needed to set clearances tighter.
