Yeah the front drums you might want to question them on as it should be discs I would reckon. Unless discs were still a box to tick for the SC360's when you bought one new? Having the drums still doesnt rule out that it is a real one but I am pretty sure it should be front discs and the photo of the restored front drums should raise an alarm bell to look into mate for your own peace of mind that it is a real deal SC360 It also has the later front lower valance/beaver panel on it with the top indents for the energy absorbing bumpers which came out after the SC360's. These are all you can usually find in NOS which is what I have put on mine. Just something to query them on and, like the front drums, its inclusion still doesnt rule out that it is a genuine car as that replacement panel might have been all they could find.
If the Hornet is the right price it looks like a real good quality car regardless of whether it is a genuine one or not and would make a tough cruiser around the streets of Australia Edited by 70Hornet - Aug/30/2016 at 7:47am |

Not really sure about the SC360, but drums on all corners was still standard for the AMX in 71 even with the 401.

Acording to Hemmings
"Manual front drum brakes came standard on every Hornet, including the SC/360, though power drums and power discs were available options. And though one would think that brake systems remained relatively interchangeable over the years, the power brake booster for early Hornets, including the SC/360, is difficult to procure." http://www.hemmings.com/magazine/mus/2009/05/1971-AMC-Hornet-SC-360/1816039.html |

Cool. That clears that up then We didn't mean to dampen any enthusiasm thats for sure. I am enthusiastic and it isnt even coming over to get parked in my garage for my driving pleasure It was definatly worth bringing it up about the front drums jusssssst in case (and I wouldnt worry about the front valance panel thing as that's maybe all the restorer had or maybe they came out on cars only sold in California or something silly like that as California seemed to get all the funny safety and pollution gear stuff earlier then other state sold cars). If the bank and shipping part all work out Happy genuine SC360 Horneting Craigie Lucky fella Edited by 70Hornet - Aug/30/2016 at 3:13pm |

My questioning front drums wasn't whether they were right or not, just if you are going that far tearing it down why not upgrade why you are there

Well spotted guys, yes the front Drums were a puzzling thing for me too, considering my Aussie 72 Hornet had front discs.
The rest of the car ticked so many boxes to being the real thing that I was just going to roll with the brake thing (Excuse the Pun). For the record the front brakes have now been upgraded to discs ...... will throw up another pic. The most important thing is the VIN checks out perfectly as well as a lot of other marking and numbers on the body/frame. I certainly appreciate your interest and concerns, I am only getting one go at this so it's got to be a fair dinkum SC/360 that I'm sending down to Oz. |
