    Posted: Sep/19/2018 at 12:37am

Has anyone used the Scat connecting rod p/n 2-343-5885-2208 in a 360?  Summit lists the application as 390/401 but CNC-Motorsports says it is for a 343.  Scat's website is useless and tells me nothing.

The part number would seem to indicate it is for the 343.  If so, does anyone know if 343 connecting rods will work in a 360?

Here is Summit's specs on it:

Connecting Rod Length Center to Center (in):5.885 in.

Connecting Rod Beam Style:H-beam

Connecting Rod Material:Forged 4340 steel

Connecting Rod Finish:Shot-peened and tumbled

Wrist Pin Style:Floating

Clearanced for Stroker:Yes

Cap Retention Style:Cap screw

Connecting Rod Bolt Brand:ARP

Connecting Rod Bolt Diameter:7/16 in.

Connecting Rod Bolt Material:8740 chromoly steel

Fastener Yield Strength (psi):180,000 psi

Connecting Rod Bolt Head Style:12-point

Big End Bore Diameter (in):2.2080 in.

Pin End Bore Diameter:0.930 in.

Big End Width (in):0.988 in.

Weight Matched Set:Yes

Here is Scat's specs on it:Length: 5.885Rod Journal: 2.095

Big end Width: .924

My stock rods measure .993 width at the big end.  The 401 spec I have shows .920 as the width and 2.2481 for the rod journal.  Does anyone know what the width and journal diameters are for the 343?

I may try to call Scat and see what they have to say.

Anyone have any insight for this?

Thanks

343 rod is the same as 360, 0.930" pin would be for 290/343/304/360.

Ok, thanks for the reply.

I also checked with Scat and they confirmed this connecting rod will work in a 360 as well.  Probably going to go with them.

I almost pulled the trigger on a set of Falcon Global/PEP rods off of Ebay but CNCMotorsports had the Scats for only $100 more and Scats seem to get better rating--although there is really not much out there about the Falcons good or bad.

Great--thanks for the reply.  Seems like they get high marks from most people and the price is right, too.

I ordered a set that should be here next week.

I got these rods in my 360 and love them. They measured perfectly! I run low 11's and no issues at all. Recommend them over falcon. Jim

Just a question, what happened to Eagle? Back when I started here, Eagle was a good product. Has there been issues with fitment, as there seems to be questions about proper machining and matching original rod specs.

When I was researching brands, I could not find Eagle rods for AMC engines.  I didn't see anything in their 2018 catalog for our engines and assumed they stopped supporting them.

People may be using other make/model Eagle rods and machining them to fit AMC engines which might explain the questions about fitment.  Just a guess, though.
