Not to hijack the thread but that reminds me....

A number of years ago I was at Kenosha. There was a spotless freshly restored S/C Rambler on the show field owned by a very proud gentleman who is no longer in the hobby. I did manage to overhear the following....

There was a older gentleman looking very closely at the car and the owner jumped up from his lawn chair to engage him in conversation.

OWNER: "It's 1969 S/C Rambler, very rare. I just finished restoring it back to the same condition as the day it was built."

OLDTIMER: "I know what it is. I worked at the factory. You over restored it."

OWNER: "No sir, your mistaken, it is the same as the day the factory built it."

OLDTIMER: "Nope, the black over spray is missing."

OWNER: "There was no black over spray on these cars."

OLDTIMER: "There was only one grill in 1969. It had a chrome bar across the center. My job was to spray that bar black on every S/C Rambler coming down the line with a spray can. Every one of them had my over spray on them."

OWNER: ............................... Just walks back to his lawn chair and sits down.

Got to love them oldtimers.

Nice work - looks like you had a very solid car to begin with. Keep the pictures coming - always like to see another SC going back into action - JJ

Pit Crew, I was going to say in reply about the blackout paint question brought up earlier. It looks to me in the photo, that the black paint was applied after fenders were installed... so your story, fits to how to properly restore the black out paint, just never thought it was done with he grill on. So I would be safe in assuming that the stage of getting the black out completed is proper for now.

Yes it will be black behind grille and it is now time.

I would agree with the old timer but prefer no over spray or undercoat (sound deadener) myself.
