I just have a few ?'s about later AMC roofs. Basically it doesn't really matter buy have seen a few that have me stumped.
I know the hornet ended in 1977, so 1978 brought the Concord. On the 2 door concord the side rear window got smaller. I can understand how still having parts why a 78 concord would still jave the larger Hornet side window, figure, use em up. But a few years ago my buddy and I bought a rusty 79 2 door concord, it too had the larger side window. No big deal, thought maybe they had a ton of them still, so use them up. But the other day I saw a 1983 4 door Concord that still has the older Hornet roof, I thought in 79 the 4 door Concords got the extra little window added after the rear door, c pillar. Just wondering what a 1983 Concord is doing wearing a 70's Hornet roof. I just wonder. Thank you |

Some 4 door fleet cars did not get the little opera window behind the rear doors. Some of these cars even came with taxi style vinyl flooring instead of carpet. The natural gas company here in Winnipeg had some of these in their fleet but most of their cars were 1982 wagons.
Some of the really base model and/or fleet 2 door Concords got the big quarter windows. Edited by maximus7001 - Oct/09/2017 at 10:02am |

I suspect a base concord is the same as a Hornet. The DL and limiteds..and more stuff. Vinyl tops, stuff like that.

I actually like the older roof better. Tom, you are right, all the Concords ive seen with the "carry over Hornet roofs" have been total base model Concords. Oddly, all of floor shift 4 speeds, but all 6 cylinder. Thanks for replies, I'm always wondering what/why AMC did what they did.

Well, here is a picture of the 1983 Amc Concord 4 Door I was talking about. Has the old style roof. 1 owner car. Ordered by original owner. As mentioned, might jave been a base model roof. Wasn't ever a company owned car, so not fleet. It is a pretty basic car. Plain door panels, 4 speed, bench seat. I knda wish i didnt need all the parts, fairly good car
