I would recommend anyone wanting to drive on a 'track' to first participate in some auto-cross events. It's a great test for the car and your skills. Safety requirements are very similar. Additionally, Auto-cross is significantly less expensive, and puts your car in much less danger. Once you are confident with your skills then move up to open track events. A 290 Auto will be a great starting point in understanding how to keep momentum

A race school would be great. A bit west of you in Beloit is BlackHawk Farms raceway, a great 2 mile course that will have various race schools and events as well. 3 hours North is Road America as well, lots of Chicago groups organize driving events there as well. Not recommended however as it's a 4 mile track where you are at top speed 3 times per lap. |
