The AMC 20, over the years, used two different bolt sizes for the ring gear depending on year of the axle. The 7/16-20 bolts are very easy to find. The 7/16-24 bolts must be made of un-obtainium. Does anyone have a source for NEW 7/16-24 grade 8 bolts? I have Googled until my fingers hurt and so far no luck so I am going to try here on the forum. The forum members have been very good in the past at finding "rare" items.

Thanks,
Ken

Fastenal has pretty well any size/grade/finish you may need.
You may need a business number so be prepared to ask your local garage to order them and you pick them up.
I would definitely pay the extra for their "certified" fasteners and the others are may be made in China and you get what you pay for.

Thanks but I already came up empty with Fastenal.

Nope, verified both with actual measurements and the TSM. 7/16-24. We are dealing with circa 68 and up AMC 20 axles with 3.xx and up ratios. Thanks for your input though.

How about these:
http://www.ronsmachiningservice.net/ring-gear-bolts/dana/amc-model-20-ring-gear-bolts/
They may be able to help but 7/16 course is 14 TPI, NF is 20 and ENF is 28. 24TPI is very odd number.

Thanks. I'll take a look. So far all I was able to find was the 7/16-24 bottoming tap so we can at least chase the threads in the ring gear. Going forward we may be forced to reuse the old bolts but for now we are one set short. Funny thing is I can find a ton of 7/16-24 banjo bolts. Seems to be a very popular size in brake systems but not for plain old bolts.

Ken is absolutely correct in the diameter and thread pitch.  7/16-24, the actual combination is called UNS (Unified Standard).  AMC included a new set of bolts in each Ring and Pinion Gear Set you bought from them.  Another part to grab from old AMC 20 rears, they are unique Grade 8 with oversize hex heads, but low profile.

Here's a photo of two AMC 20 ring gear bolts. The bolt on the left is aftermarket that fits the Yukon ring gear I have. The bolt on the right is original AMC. I think I've got two sets of these.

Not much of a fan of chasing a bolt thread same size and different pitch as you will be weaken the clamping force significantly.  Looking, ARP sells M12-1.50 bolts in a variety of lengths.
This is 0.040" larger then your current bolt but in the end you get a new bolt, fresh threaded hole and a lot more strength then original.
This would likely fit better and easier to do then going up to 1/2-20.
I have looked for a M11-1.0 (7/16-25) that is so close to the 7/16-24 that I would do that but can only find taps and dies, no bolts???
