    Posted: Jul/25/2017 at 6:02pm
I have a machine that currently has a 401/727 setup, the original motor/trans came with the car. I'm starting the process of getting the original stuff rebuilt to have put back into the car by a shop. So far I've read that I might have to find new shift linkage to reconnect to the M-12 to the console shifter. Any thoughts to other areas that might need to be looked at? The motor and trans are separated, as well.

I have a shifter link for 70 and 71, will sell for $20.00 shipped.

I will post both diagrams. Not sure if part number is the same but 68 and 69 are clearly not straight like 70 and 71.

Will post the diagrams of all three console types.

Bent style linkage 68 and 69 console

Straight style linkage 70 console

Straight style linkage 71 console

You will need the driveshaft and yoke for the M12.

Is the m-12 longer than a 727? I cant find any measurements on the m-12, and I just put it in the shop to get checked out.

If you are keeping the 401, you might need an adaptor for the crankshaft or machine the end of it to mate with the M12. Others can add in on this.

I'll be putting the original 390 back in with the m-12. I should have clarified earlier.

I'm only going to say this once, keep the 727. Yes, you'll have to modify the 390 crank to accept the 727 torque converter OR put the entire 401 reciprocating assembly into the 390 block. But any way you cut it, the 727 is a superior transmission to the BW unit.

Especially if it is from a 401. Since you have the 390 out, it is a no brainer to modify the crank to fit the 727 torque converter snout. Keep all the stuff for installing it, as you will need it.

Hi guys

Sorry for crashing the party after it's finished.

Looking at the illustrations that 304-dude posted above, I realize that my shifter link is of the wrong type.
Apparently it should have been a straight style link according the illustrations, but mine's not.
It's bent in two places, so either some previous owner bent it or put on a link from a wrong
model/year.

I should be able to straighten it out properly, so if anyone can post a length measurement from their 71' (or '70 if it's similar) shifter link I would be most grateful.

My combo is a '71 Javelin, M-11B with floor console.
