I see that Amark sells decals for refacing the gauges in my 69 AMX.  Has anyone here tried doing this? Someone told me that they broke the needle on the tach when they tried it, and I'm just wondering what experience others have had.

Thanks!

Cam,

Yes I have done this before with great results. The only change from the Amark instructions is that I cut the tach decal so as not to have to bend the needle. With a straight scissors cut you can place the decal so that the seam does not show. I was told by many that they had broken the needles without doing the cut.
Good luck.

Cam, I used the AMRK kit and as careful as I was I broke the tach needle. That being said I sent the tach to autoinstruments and had a new tach installed that is calibrated etc. works great and looks like new!

Hmmm,  thanks Mark and Tony. I think I might buy the Amark labels and let one of those iinstrument specialty shops install them for me.

Tony,
What did it cost to get the tach redone?

I can't remember and will have to check my receipts. You can email them or call and get a quote. I broke the needle on mine and then purchased another one here from a forum member. When it arrived the needle was touching the face and had no movement even though it was supposed to be a good unit. I ended up sending it off and having a new tach installed. The new one has an additional wire that has to be wired up but unless you're under the dash you can't tell.
