Currently considering ways to make this car become legal.

It could easily become a 'money pit' if I pursue any other direction of 'progress', only to make my Rambler V8 engine stand/poor man's engine dyno more expensive than it needs to be.

I think it'd look good and become a 'better' car with cut-out wheelwells.

1) Reality dictates weighing the weighing the 'image' of the car with regard to Police profiling: How cops will 'see' the car. Knowing the law, why invite trouble?

2) With cut-out wheelwells, this will allow higher performance rims and tires, and due to limited rear suspension extension (caused the short driveshaft) this will allow easier rear tire changes.

Decisions-decisions...

Anyway, I decided to use use my simple 'Paint' computer program to help visualize how I might want the car to look:

Maybe I'm just trying to talk myself into it, but I think cut-out wheelwells make the car look more like it's supposed to be that way -like it was made that way. The '66 AMX Project IV 'AMX II' showcar has this look too -with full radius wheel openings...

excellent and understandable reasoning on the Qjet. It is a clunky beast. I have “weighed” the conundrums too. I have long thought of properly adapting this late Dodge 360 truck qjet I have sitting around, fully rebuilt, to an AMC square bore performer. The triple boosters, spread bore, and micro adjustable primary rods feature that the late Qjets have is very tempting.

I enjoy your projects and ways of thinking. Thanks for the reply and sharing your thoughts. I have a desire to build a rambler v8 rig sometime. I enjoyed a 327 in an old wagoneer once. The engine might deserve a reprise.

Looks a little "dirt track" with the cut-out wheel wells, but not bad. It's a modified drag car for all practical purposes the way it's built. I suppose the first thing you will need to do to make it street legal is to build a dog house for the engine. You can run it on the original title -- I don't see the law giving you too much trouble as long as you have everything the car requires working -- things like windshield washers. There is no legal requirement for driver position! Just don't tint the rear windows...

Thanks for your opinions and comments.

-Been doing a ton of work on this car lately: it's been up on jackstands for a month to fabricate a floor and finish detailing the car underneath; now it has an all satin black undercarriage.

Now adjusting the front suspension and posting these pics to show my DIY low cost Toe-in caliper:

Three more pics to show low cost/DIY toe-in caliper to help fellow AMCers get the idea.

Reduced rolling resistance is a 'power secret' to increase the overall efficiency of your vehicle.

Look it up; for every 1/16" off from your correct toe in setting it's like dragging a tire sideways for so many miles...

I made a shop drawing on this item -I'll try to find it and post that too.

Space here for more description as time allows.

One of the alignment shops where I live will spray paint a "line" all around the center of the front tire tread. Then they place a scribe on a stand and rotate the wheel and tire while scribing a line in the paint.
They then measure across from front tire to front tire at the front of the tire and the back of the tire to determine toe.
old school I think....

Ahh... thanks for contributing. (reminds me to make the shop drawing to explain the toe-in caliper)
