Hey guys 1968 amc ambassador sst. I was wondering if there's any sort of kits or parts available for converting my rear end to a limited slip. Is it possible to change the rear end out completely? Any information would be helpful

The original twin grip units work really well. They were the early 4-pinion design that seems to work a whole lot better than the newer 2-pinion ones. My Marlin has a 4-pinion twin grip and I don't think it has ever failed to keep both rear wheels locked together when needed, even when I had it stuck up to the rims in mud.  |

Second hand rear end is going to be close to 50 years old if not already rebuilt. Might be better to just buy some bits and rebuild what you have. Plenty of options for new centers depending on your objectives, check Summit under Jeep for ideas and pricing.

Like above. The center section of the 68 AMC20 is the same as used in Jeep CJs from 76-85. Lots of options out there if you go to Jeep sites.

Another option is to use a Ford Explorer 8.8". Should be about the right width for a big car, easy to find in salvage yard. Finding the gear ratio you want might be another matter. Lots of info on the 8.8" at www.therangerstation.com, including gear ratio codes. Will have to cut and weld some brackets... The only sticky point is the upper link. You'd have to fabricate something there or use a Mustang rear axle, which should be about the same width.

another option would be to look in the for sale section and find the ambassador model 20 posi for sale.

Exploder diff into a coil spring car sounds like too much work to me, maybe it's worth th effort if you have leafs.
