Hi AMC and Ramblers. Have a question on my 63 Classic Six Cylinder BW T35 Aluminum Cased Transmission. The adjusting screw for the rear band broke. I sourced a new one and the head of the new bolt has two flat sides. I would assume the bolt should have a completely round head so it turns easily and doesn't bind. Am I missing something here? Any help would be appreciated. |

That screw has to be installed from INSIDE the transmission, so it has to be disassembled. I don't know why the flats, might be to aid in initial assembly.

Thank you Farna. Yes, I had dropped the pan to get to the head that broke off the adjusting screw. I heard it come off when I was adjusting the rear band. The fact that AMC made a replacement screw tells me that maybe they are known to break. I wish I could post photos but I'm having trouble doing that by pasting them into my reply. I was concerned that there may be a shoe that goes around the head of the screw but I don't see anything else inside the trans.

See that funny diagonal arrow on the far right above the reply box? That's the "full editor". You have to use it to post photos.

I bet that confounds a lot of people. It gets me once in a while. I wonder why the full editor isn't the only editor? Sounds like it solves a 1995 problem. |

YOu can't paste photos into posts. YOu have to click the icon that looks like a tree (it's a tree). Then select from a list, then upload. Once the image loads in the preview to the right, then click OK. eBay, Facebook allow drag'n'drop, but not this forum.

Hey tomj, thank you for explaining how to upload a photo.
Now that I can, I have another question. Photo below shows two transmission filters. The top one is the old one I removed. The bottom is the new one. I was told that the new one can be used in my trans, but it looks different and doesn't have the round spring assembly, just a flat flange of sheet metal, but in a different spot. Anyone know if this is okay to use, or should I search for one that is exactly the same. Thanks for any help on this. |
